We can work with you to receive college credit as an intern at the Mesa Historical Museum. Unpaid internships can be developed for students interested in museums, marketing, history, education, and more.

Internship projects and duties may include:
o Assist with planning and implementation of a special event
o Conduct school, summer, and scout programs
o Conduct adult group tours of the museum
o Conduct surveys about the museum programming
o Revise teacher packet for additional grades

o Catalog artifacts
o Research specific objects for exhibit labels or file history
o Repack artifacts in storage
o Clean artifacts
o Photograph artifacts
o Organize museum records
o Enter information into PastPerfect database, update records
o Enter photographs into DAM database

o Staff the research room to assist patrons with questions
o Research telephone, email, and mail reference requests
o Assist in arrangement and description of book collections
o Catalog books for museum research library
o Update clippings files

o Take down exhibits rotating off display
o Help plan new exhibits
o Prepare artifacts for display
o Set up new exhibits
o Prepare galleries for new exhibits


Fall Internships Available


The Mesa Historical Society and Museum is now accepting applications for Fall 2013 internships.

Interns should be current (or recently graduated) undergraduate or graduate students in history, art history, Anthropology, museum or library studies, or a related field. Other majors with significant interest in museum work may also be considered.

Internships are unpaid. Intern hours and schedules are flexible to meet the needs of students and academic credit requirements, although interns are expected to work at least 4 hours per week for a minimum of ten weeks. Interns are not re- quired to seek academic credit, although they can.

Fall interns will focus on collections management and registration duties, al- though opportunities to help with other aspects of museum operations (including communications, marketing, technology, event planning, etc.) can be arranged. Please contact for more information.

We are happy to work with college or university departments for interns to receive academic credit, and have in the past had interns from Arizona State University, Mesa Community College, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona.
